Policy Awareness - Tardiness

The year 2014 has brought us several new policies. All of the changes are important, but this month our focus is on Tardiness. Tardiness is an ongoing issue of our company and in these tough economic times, we can no longer settle for "good enough." We need to, as an entire company, extend our behavior and actions to exceed what is expected of us.

At a minimum, this means being at your work station, prepared to work at the beginning of your shift. Those who are not at their work station at the beginning of their shift, prepared to work, will be considered tardy. Being present at our work stations at the start of our shift conveys professionalism and excellence, not only to one another, but also importantly, to our clients. For more information, please refer to the Employee Handbook.

Employee of the Month

We are excited to announce that we will be having an Employee of the Month Program at SSS! Each month, a member of our team will be selected as a stand out. What makes a standout? Simple: the guidelines for winning each month will be an employee who has exhibited one or more of the following qualities: 1. Positive attitude, 2. Excellent teamwork skills, and 3. Gone above and beyond. More information to come soon!

Company News

As of July 2013, Scarsdale Security Systems, Inc., became a member of the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA). According to CSAA website, the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) is a respected trade association representing providers, users, bureaus, and other agencies related to the Central Station protection services. All members are certified by a CSAA-approved Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL), such as UL, FM and/or ETL. CSAA is legally entitled to represent its members before Congress, regulatory agencies (local, state and federal levels) and other authorities having jurisdiction over the industry. Since its incorporation in 1950, CSAA has served members' interests in ever-increasing ways.

We are excited about our membership with CSAA! CSAA provides a Level 1 and Level 2 Operator training course which will enable our Central Station to uphold a "uniformed" training for existing and new employees. This training opportunity will coincide with our Oregon expectations for monitoring. More information to follow about scheduling our training. Feel free to reach out to Daria x2331 regarding additional information about CSAA.

HR Q&A: Insurance Market Place

What you need to know
We have had a lot of questions about the new government-sponsored health care program called the Insurance Market Place.  As you probably are aware, the rules have changed continually. Here are some of the questions and our answers!

Q: What is the Health Insurance Marketplace?
A: The Marketplace is a competitive marketplace where people and small businesses can shop for and buy private health insurance. With one application, you can find out if you qualify for health plans in the marketplace, and other programs like Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), tax credits, and cost-sharing reductions.

Q: Do I have to buy from the Marketplace?
A: No. A Marketplace is just one of the ways people can shop for health coverage. However, you can only get financial help from the government if you buy coverage through a Marketplace.

Q: Who has to buy health insurance?
A: Most people are required to have a basic level of health coverage as of January 1, 2014. Some people don't have to buy insurance, based on their income or other status. Go to your Marketplace for details.

Q: What if I don't want health insurance?
A: If you don't qualify for an exemption to the Affordable Care Act's mandate to purchase qualifying health coverage, then you will be subject to a tax penalty.

Q: What if I already enrolled in Scarsdale Security health insurance plan?
A: You won't be affected as our plan complies with all laws.

Q: how do I find out more about it?
A: Visit the website: www.healthcare.gov

Did YOU know...

that job stress causes over 1 million people to miss work everyday? According to a 2011 Work Stress Survey conducted by Harris Interactive, Job stress is estimated to cost US employers more than $300 billion annually in absenteeism, diminished productivity, employee turnover and health care costs. Health care expenditures are nearly 50% greater for workers who report high levels of stress.

What can we do to help reduce stress levels and maintain/build a productive workforce?

Here are a few suggestions:

  • Keep Communication Flowing - Talk to your supervisors and/or managers if there are issues. This will give you the opportunity to participate in job related decisions.
  • Nurture a Friendly Environment - Be respectful and kind to others.
  • Engage in Stress Reducing techniques - studies show that regular exercise helps to reduce stress. Engage in deep breathing exercises. Take a walk at lunch time.
